A LEGO minifigure modelled component by component in Creo Parametric as part of the Mechanical CAD course at DTU, covering the torso, head, arms, hands, legs and pelvis, then assembled with motion at the joints, documented in full engineering drawings, and finally animated and rendered in 3ds Max.
What it covers
Each component was modelled as its own part before being brought into an assembly, where servo motors were placed at the joints so that the figure could be positioned and moved rather than only standing still. Furthermore the assembly was taken all the way through to documentation, meaning part drawings with projection, section and detail views, an exploded assembly drawing with balloons and a bill of materials that updates itself when a component changes, and tolerances specified on the two diameters that actually matter, being the head's outer and inner diameters, since those are the surfaces that assemble against the torso and against a hat.
Rendered in 3ds Max
The finished figure was taken into 3ds Max in order to animate the joints and render it, which is the same route as the Nintendo model and the reason both sit in the same toolchain rather than stopping at the CAD file.
